Offered by the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Idaho, this scholarship supports both traditional and non-traditional nursing students in Idaho.
A special emphasis is placed on assisting descendants of veterans – this includes children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren. To qualify, the veteran must have served in the Armed Forces during specific eligible dates.

American Legion Auxiliary Department of Idaho Traditional Nurses Scholarship Eligibility & Requirements:
- Relation to Veteran: Be related as a daughter, son, grandson, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, or great-grandson to a veteran who served in the Armed Forces during:
- April 6, 1917, to November 11, 1918 (WWI)
- December 7, 1941 (WWII) to the present time.
- Residency: Be living in Idaho.
- Application Type: If you’ve been out of high school for over two years, fill out the non-traditional application.
- Educational Institution: Plan to attend and receive training at a recognized post-secondary institution within two years of getting the scholarship.
- Change in Educational Plans: Inform the American Legion Auxiliary Education Chair if you decide to leave school before finishing your program.
- Form Completion: Fill out the scholarship application form entirely.
- Letter to ALA: Write a clear, signed, and dated application letter to the ALA scholarship committee.
- Recommendations: Get signed and dated recommendation letters (Ensure all have the required signatures and dates) from:
- Your high school counselor or principal.
- A businessperson who knows you well but isn’t related to you.
- A character reference from someone who isn’t a family member.
- Academic Records: Provide your high school transcript with your ACT or SAT scores.
- Veteran Documentation: Include the eligible veteran’s honorable discharge certificate (Form DD-214).
- Financial Records: Submit the current FAFSA (Free Application for Financial Student Aid).
Application Packet Must Have:
- Your filled-out application.
- College transcript, if you have one.
- A resume detailing your work experience.
- A recommendation letter from a recent employer (official letterhead is preferred, and it should be signed and dated).
- A copy of your FAFSA form that you’ve submitted for college financial help.
